RJ Nitin: India's Jade Goody has hills on fire Prashant Tamang was crowned

MOB FURY: A motorcycle set afire by a mob protesting against the comments by a radio jockey in Siliguri on Friday.

KOLKATA: A clash broke out in Siliguri on Friday between the fans of Prashant Tamang, recently selected Indian Idol, and local residents during a march protesting alleged derogatory remarks against him by a radio jockey of a Delhi-based private frequency-module channel.

Later Mr. Tamang, who won a television channel-sponsored nationwide “talent-hunt” for crooners, appealed to his supporters through a local television channel not to resort to violence and to maintain peace in the region. He said action had been sought against the FM channel.

Vehicles, including police jeeps, were set ablaze, shops attacked and brickbats exchanged between the warring groups forcing the police to fire three rounds after bursting of teargas shells and a baton-charge failed to quell the disturbances. Several persons, including some police officials, were injured in the violence.

The trouble, which was sparked off by an alleged attack on a woman by some in the procession, threatened to snowball into a riot. The demonstrators, who were on their way to the office of the sub-divisional office to submit a memorandum demanding action against the radio channel, allegedly prevented an ambulance headed for a nearby hospital from passing through. The Army was called in to help the police in restoring normality in the town. There will be a flag march in some of the sensitive areas, a senior police official said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said the situation was tense and his government would initiate legal action against the channel and was in touch with the Home Ministry.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr.PC were promulgated in the town. Additional police forces have been rushed to the area where the Rapid Action Force has been deployed.

The State police administration decided to send a team of officials to New Delhi to investigate allegations against the radio jockey, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said here.

Bandhs were called and rallies held in the Darjeeling hills over the past few days against the comment made earlier this week even before the jubilation following Mr. Tamang’s victory had subsided.

Prashant Tamang won the II3-2007

Prashant Tamang, a constable in the West Bengal Police, was on Sunday crowned Indian Idol after vanquishing his rival Amit Paul in a grand finale of the over-two month long talent hunt.

Tamang, 24, who hails from Darjeeling, has undergone a journey from being a member in the police band in Kolkata to becoming the heart throb of millions of TV viewers all over the country.

The grand finale was an all North-East affair as Tamang took on 24-year-old Paul, who hails from Shillong.

The results of the talent hunt were announced at a gala in New Delhi with the final witnessing a whopping seven crore people sending in their votes.

Tamang stole the centrestage with his rendition of the song Yeh Kali Kali Ankhen from the Hindi film Baazigar .

As Bollywood actor John Abraham announced Tamang the winner, the constable thanked his mother in a voice choked with emotion.

A very very congractulations to " PRASHANT TAMANG"

Hussain and Tina Kuwajerwala will be hosting Nach Baliye 3

No, Shabbir Ahluwalia and Sangeeta Ghosh will not be hosting it.. nor will Eijaz Khan and Anita Hassanandani, who dropped out citing date problems.

The winners of Season Two, Hussain and Tina Kuwajerwala will be hosting Nach Baliye 3.

Kuwajerwala, who already has Indian Idol to his credit is visibly excited about this. "We're in for some real fun. It's going to be tougher this time because all the jodis are good dancers," he says.

As for Mrs Kuwajerwala, she faced the camera for the first time in Season Two. Soon after, she bagged a celebrity chat show.

In the course of the show, the host couple will shake a leg too.

Anu Malik certainly knows how to keep his promises

Anu Malik certainly knows how to keep his promises. No matter who wins the Indian Idol title, he has already roped in his favourites for his next project.

Emon Chatterjee and Deepali, who were voted out from the competition earlier, have been signed to sing for a film.

Confirms Malik, "I believe in walking the talk. I promised Deepali that I'd sign her for my next, I will." It will be a duet for Shakti Films' next starring Mithun Chakravorthy and Parveen Dabbas.

Malik adds, "When Deepali was evicted, I was very upset. I believe she is very talented. I felt the same when Emon was voted out. I think he deserves much more."

Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki Mein Daag

They would do anything for higher TRPs.. killing and reviving a character, swapping sets with Kayamath or visiting a musical talent show. Sadly, none of these worked.

So now, the Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki crew is reportedly planning a shoot in the holy city of Varanasi. Oh, but wait.. there's more. A source claims that the story will now have a Laaga Chunari Mein Daag angle too. Maybe Maithili (played by Shalini Chandran) will traipse around in a revealing black dress and say, "I'm Natasha," a la Rani Mukerji.

Mona is hosting Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa II

Mona Singh stole everyone's hearts with her act as plain Jane in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. But the actress seems to be in no mood for another dai ly on television. "I don't think that anything bigger than Jassi can happen on the small screen," she says, quickly adding, "I don't see myself playing a mother to someone who is double my age."

Neither is she in a hurry to tie the knot with boyfriend Karan Oberoi. "Oh, there's still time for it," comes the standard reply For the time be . ing, she is busy doing reality shows. "I'm hosting and participating in lot of such programmes," she says.

Mona is hosting Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. She says, "I won the competition last year so I know how difficult it gets for those who participate. I can relate to them well." She will also feature in another reality show, Extreme Makeover, starting next month. Her big screen plans? Pat came the reply, "There's a film I'm doing but can't talk about it now." Well, we hope the wait will be worthwhile, Mona.

Gurpreet Singh to enter Saarthi

In recent times, Star Plus's Saarthi has gone thru some major changes, starting with replacing Bhoomika’s character, to killing off Arjun (Karan Grover) and then by introducing Shyam (Manav Gohil). In another attempt to make it to the TRP charts, Saarthi will now be witnessing a new entry in the show. The Kahiin Toh Hoga protagonist - Gurpreet Singh makes a come back to Indian Television, as Rudr, Bhoomika’s love interest in Saarthi.

While, Gurpreet remained unavailable for a comment, the Telly Buzz team spoke to the leading lady her self - Jhalak Thakkar, who confirmed about Gurpreet’s entry in the show. “It is true, Gurpreet will be joining the show, he hasn’t started shooting yet, he‘ll join us probably by the end of this week. He will be playing a character named - Rudr, who will be opposite Bhoomika. There will be a major love triangle story track, between Shyam, Bhoomika and Rudr. I cant reveal much about the story line as of now, but yes, there will be some sort of rivalry between Shyam and Rudr shown due to the love stories.” When asked if Gurpreet will take over the position of the male protagonist of the show, Jhalak replied, “I guess so, I am not sure what’s in store for the long run, may be he might be the new protagonist of the show.”

Jhalak, who has been portraying the role of Bhoomika, seems to be bubbling with excitement for the new story track, “Its been so much doing the role of Bhoomika. I’ve been here for just few months, and I have played a sad widow, a bubbly extrovert - Devika Parikh, then a mother, and someone’s wife, and now the added element of a fresh love story, sounds truly exciting.”

We wish Gurpreet the very best for his come back on Indian Television. Will his entry save the lowering TRPs of Saarthi? Will the audience be able to accept Bhoomika and Rudr as a couple? Does this mean that Manav Gohil might make an exit from the show post the love triangle? Well, for that tune in to Saarthi, Monday - Thursday at 2:00pm on Star Plus.

Amit and Prashant set the stages on fire

Reteish Deshmukh, in Indian Idol 4? Audience getting Crazy!

The 1000s present there, rock to the tunes of Kaante as Sanju poses as the Perfect Indian Idol, and sings...

The stage at Nirmal Lifestyle, Mumbai was on fire as the two Indian Idol finalists, Prashant Tamang and Amit Paul rocked the city with their enthralling performances. The show started off with none other than Hussain welcoming and cheering the crowd. This was followed by a grand Maharashtrain entry for the finalists- Amit and Prashant;they looked majestic, wearing Marathi Paghdis, they came on the performance floors from their caravans in decorated Auto Rickshaws, and were welcomed onto the stage with dhols, trumpets and much more. The whole atmosphere was festive, nevertheless!

Hussain, Amit and Prashant welcomed the audience in their own typical ways, and just when you thought that the stage couldn’t get any hotter, Sanjay Dutt made a guest appearance on stage to cheer for two competitors and to also thank the audience for their support during his crucial time. With the festive occasion of Ganesh Chathurthi coming up, Sanjay and the contestants performed the Ganapati Arti on stage, bringing in a Pandit and a statue of Lord Ganesha. Sanjay quickly bid everyone a farewell, after officially giving the count down to the voting lines being open and followed it up by singing a song from the movie - Kaante and by talking a little about his latest release - Dhamaal.

Soon after Sanjay’s exit, Amit and Prashant consecutively took over the stage. Amit made the audience fall in love with love all over again by singing - Pehla Nasha, Nasha yeh Pyaar Ka Nasha Hain, and Yaad Aa Rahan Hain Tera Pyaar… The girls in the audience simply couldn’t get enough of him. Later, Prashant got the entire crowd on their tows by singing - Rind Posh Mal from Mission Kashmir, Dil Ne from Kaho Na pyaar hain, and Bas Ek Pal.

Soon after the performances, Ritesh Deshmukh joined the performers and spoke to the audience about his new film - Dhamaal. Karishma Tanna did a little jig with the guys on - Ishq Di galli from No Entry. Preeti Saberwal and Vidya from Chak De India, too came to wish both men the very best for the finale, and presented them with a hockey stick each.

Well folks, without letting the cat entirely out of the bag, we suggest that you don’t miss the special episode of Indian Idol on Sony Entertainment Television, on Friday, 14th of September at 9:00PM

'Balaji Telefilms has no ethics'

She is one of the most versatile faces on the Indian telly and will now be seen as a mother of conjoined twins on Sony's new serial Amber Dhara. Catch actress Mona Ambegaonkar in a chat with Riya V Anandwala.

How confident are you about your new show AmberDhara?

I don't need to be. It's not my show.

Okay.. how about your character?
That I'm extremely confident about. It's well written and well-etched out.

If you come across a situation like your character does in this show (a woman who is abandoned by her husband after delivering conjoined twins), how would you react?
I don't want be judgmental; I've never been that way. I don't think it's right to say what's good or bad.

You've never done family dramas.. why AmberDhara? "I'm doing AmberDhara because I'm not doing anything else. As to why I'm not doing anything else.. I don't want to be seen doing trash".
I'm doing AmberDhara because I'm not doing anything else. As to why I'm not doing anything else.. I don't want to be seen doing trash.

You've been around television for so many years.. haven't you come across anything interesting?
Why.. have you? If you have, do let me know.

Have you been offered saas-bahu shows?

Oh yeah, I was almost about to do Karam Apna Apna.

So, what happened?
Nothing. I refused because Balaji Telefilms has no ethics. They don't know how to treat people. I didn't know what the role was; I don't think they knew either.

What about movies?
I have a few films coming up. I had one release this year, Buddha Mar Gaya, which was rather dismal.

Were you happy with the way it shaped up?
Honestly, I never saw the film. I didn't get an opportunity. There was just one preview but I wasn't in town then.

What response did you get for your work?
From the executive producer: that the film hadn't worked. From the press: you know it. And from a really honest friend: he told me he ran out of the theatre mid-way.. screaming, so you get the picture.

You've been active on stage..
Yes, five of my plays are running currently. Tom Alter and I do three plays in a year.

Any plans of starting your own production house?
Not for theatre. I do have a production house for documentaries. It's called Mona Ambegaonkar Productions. (Laughs) Original, huh?

What kind of documentaries do you produce?
I've just finished with four documentaries based on a part of Uttaranchal. They've been sent for a few international festivals. Some have got attention, others haven't. Documentary filmmaking is not a career per se.

Roy brothers shake it up at Jhalak Dhikla Ja!

Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy - the two names synonymous with success when it comes to television. Handsome, sexy and gorgeous, both have carved a niche and have a huge fan base. And they will now share the same platform. While the elder brother Ronit would be trying out his luck shaking his leg as a contestant, Rohit would hold centre stage with the mike as the host in the music reality show Jhalak Dhikla Ja.

Would Rohit feel partial towards his brother while seeing him perform? ‘ I don’t think Rohit can be partial there,’ smiles Ronit. ‘ He will have to treat all the contestants the same way.’

Rohit has no such inhibitions. ‘ Of course it’s natural that I will feel a bit biased towards Ronit. Everyone is allowed to have a favourite, mine happens to be Ronit. He is a fabulous dancer, and even if he was not my brother, I would have supported him just because of his dancing,’ Rohit admits in his usual guileless manner.

Will it be a family gathering of sorts? ‘ Yes, because I get so less time to spend with Rohit,’ affirms Ronit. ’It would be lovely to have some time together with him’.

‘Of course,’ enthuses the younger brother. ‘ I would definitely be there cheering for him when I am not hosting’.

The love and affection is evident in their voice as they speak of each other. ‘ Rohit is a very kind man, and a generous brother,’ reveals the usually reticent Ronit, the love in his voice unmistakable. ‘ I am sure he will be a terrific host.’

‘Ronit is more like a father to me, and I am really scared of him,’ confides the ever effervescent Roy junior, his words in direct contrast to the pride evident whenever he speaks of his dashing older brother. ‘I really hope he wins the competition. ‘

All the Ronit Roy fans hope so too. No matter who wins the competition, it sure is a win win situation for the Roy brothers fans out their who will now get more than a Jhalak of their favourite stars.

Sanjeeda is a happy person: Aamir

sanjeeda_aamir_01Girls swooning over the handsome Soumya of ‘Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki’ (SaharaOne) are in for a rude surprise. The popular character will soon be out of the show.

Sentimental about Soumya

Confirms actor Aamir Ali, “Yes, my character is going to be killed. It was the demand of the script as the story had to move ahead.” Ask Aamir what he will miss about the show and he quickly replies, “Oh, everything. I was living the character for the past 13-14 months. I am a person who gets attached to things. So it’s difficult parting ways,” he smiles.

Dance dance

With ‘Woh’ out of his way, Aamir is busy gearing up for ‘Nach Baliye 3’ (Star Plus) with partner Sanjeeda Shiekh. “When I was offered the show, I wanted to chicken out.

I can’t dance to save my life. But then I like doing things, which scare me. So I decided to go for it. Also, Sanjeeda loves dancing and was very excited about it.” He adds, “For a good dancer like Sanjeeda too, this isn’t a cake walk, so you can imagine my state. But winning or losing isn’t the criteria for me. I want to participate with the right spirit.”

The truth about Sanjeeda

The show has brought out his relationship with Sanjeeda too in the open. Why was he denying it earlier? “It was a fresh relationship. It was too early to talk about it.

We haven’t worked together and are still very new to the industry. Before establishing ourselves, we didn’t think it prudent to talk about our bond, which was still growing.”

Though the cat is now out of the bag, Aamir still fights shy to divulge much and states, “She’s a very happy person. It’s an amazing quality. ”

What are his future plans? “Plans never work. Rig

Now, Rohit Roy turns a rapist

rohitRohit Roy, who played the underworld toughie Fattu in 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', is now part of Karan Razdan’s ‘Mittal vs Mittal’, which has attempted the taboo subject of marital abuse and rape. Paired opposite National Award winner Rituparna Sengupta, Rohit plays a demanding husband.

Was he not apprehensive about taking up a negative role? Rohit laughs, “In fact it’s a challenge. It’s a bold subject being made for the first time in Bollywood.

It’s up to the audiences to decide whether I am trying to get intimate with my wife or physically abusing her. What if a wife is frigid and dislikes intimacy? My character Karan Mittal is passionate but his wife is inhibited. Instead, she drags him to court for ‘marital rape’,” explains the actor.

“According to statistics, marital rape is a common occurrence. ‘Mittal vs Mittal’, sensitively handled by Karan, has its lighter and romantic situations too,” justifies Rohit who is also busy shooting for Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Alibaug’ where he is paired opposite wife Manasi Joshi Roy.

Did he feel awkward acting opposite his spouse? “It’s easier because we understand each other. We were just ourselves. ‘Alibaug’ again is a slice-of-life film about nine friends and their professor,” insists Rohit who is also busy with his next reality TV production ‘Little Champs’ ( Zee Next), which showcases the heartbreaks and ecstasies of talented kids.

Tulsi is Smriti and Smriti is Tulsi

smriti_02

That Smriti Z Irani and Ektaa Kapoor have kissed and made up is old news. The latest is Ektaa might be paving the way for India’s favourite bahu’s comeback in ‘Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.

Never mind if Ektaa is still in denial. Says Ektaa emphatically, “Tulsi is Smriti and Smriti is Tulsi. This cannot change. We will look at it in the future once we sit down on the table. As of now, nothing has been decided.”

Call it coincidence or a carefully crafted strategy, those who have quit Balaji telefims gharana have never really retained their place on prime time television. Does Ekta have a hand in this? Well…

“I feel that those who move away from Balaji, do so because they don’t want to be a part of the company anymore. So I can’t blame them. But when you’re part of a company, you need to put in your best.”

Known to be an outright “extremist” in her temperament, does Ekta hold a grudge against her leading actors who have bid goodbye to her?

“People think I harbour animosity towards them. I don’t. Or else I wouldn’t be the person I am.”

Why has Balaji not forayed into reality shows, a sure-shot TRP grabber? Ekta remains non-chalant.

“Soaps get consistent rating as women watch them all over the week. Husbands and the kids take over on weekends. Soaps are like homemade food. You go to a restaurant only once in a while.”

Does Ekta suffer from insecurity complex? “Of course I do. The industry is all about insecurity. In fact, it pushes me to do better!”

Iqbal Khan and Vivan Bhatena to fight it out in 'Chuna hai Aasman' !

Star has pulled off a coup of sorts by casting two of the hottest hunks of Indian TV industry, the dashing Iqbal Khan and the gorgeous Vivan Bhatena.

Vivan Bhatena, who is riding the crest of popularity with his role of Shabd in Maayka, will be leaving Kumkum to focus on this new series, while Iqbal khan, who went on a hiatus after his marriage to his longtime sweetheart Sneha, will make a comeback, skyrocketing the anticipations of millions of his fans all across the globe.
'It's basically a love triangle between me, Iqbal and a new girl called Jhanvi,' reveals Vivan.' It's a sequel to Saara Aakaash, and hopefully it will do as well as the first one did. I am sure it will be liked by everyone,' reflects the actor.
Now, is there even a doubt that a serial having the likes of Vivan Bhatena and Iqbal khan will not immediately generate a TRP overdrive?
The shooting for 'Chuna hai Aasman', which is a sequel to Star's earlier venture 'Saara Aakash', has already started. The serial is slated to go one air on 24th September on Star One in the 9.30 pm slot.

Rishabh Bajaj would be making a re entry

It seems the character of Rishabh Bajaj would be making a re entry, and television's one of the most popular actor and Ekta's blue eyed boy, Ronit Roy, would yet again be seen sharing space with his Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi co star, Hiten Tejwani, and Shweta Tiwari in the evergreen serial Kasauti Zindagi Ke. The creative team is now once more planning to play God and bring back the dead.

So is he really going to be back? ‘ There is nothing certain as of yet,’ informs Ronit. ’ They are contemplating the return of my character, and talks are on. But nothing has been finalized.’ the actor discloses hesitantly.

Just for the records, Ronit is perhaps the only leading man who has had two spectacularly successful pairings with two different leading ladies in two different shows on the same channel - Mihir-Tulsi in Kyunki and Rishabh Bajaj-Prerna in Kasauti.

However, with Prerna being 60 years old grandma now, and him being almost 20 years her senior as originally shown in the show, he might possibly be looking at playing an eighty year old! However, obviously reluctant to talk more on this, Ronit simply laughs and says,’ I don’t really know, so it’s a little premature to say anything.’

Or maybe the creative team will have amnesia about his age, and he will end up being just as old as Prerna…..if only the audience were blessed with this magnitude of amnesia, it would be so much more easier to swallow such atrociously ridiculous story lines! Or maybe they are, which explains why these serials get away with so many life size bloopers and go on and on forever.
Wish Ekta Kapoor could weild her magic and make the dead come back in real life too! That could probably make up for the element of surprise most of her serials so pathetically miss in.

First Look of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 2

Yesteryear's Hindi cinema hero fondly called 'jumping jack', Jeetendra, is most probably the third judge of Sony's reality talent hunt contest Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. Jazz dance expert and chorepographer Shaimak Davar is also slated to sign his contract for the show. They will appear along with Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar as the judges.

A channel spokesperson says, "Talks are on with them, but the contracts have still to be signed. Shiamak has a few earlier commitments on a few days and we're trying to adjust those. A formal announcement will be made soon." The last edition had Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shilpa Shetty and Farah Khan as the judges.

The show, produced by Synergy, is an adaptation of the international hit TV series Strictly Dancing with the Stars. The twelve participants in the second season are Ronit Roy, Cyrus Broacha, Sonali Kulkarni, Prachi Desai (Bani), Mika, Mir Ranjan Negi, Sandhya Mridul, Sudha Chandran, Aadesh Srivastav, Mini Mathur, Jay Bhanushali and Tapur Chatterjee.

Meanwhile, Sony has been conducting roadshows this month in the cities/towns that the participants belong to. The last one, this week, was at Nagpur with Sonali Kulkarni, in which she is believed to have wowed the residents of the city with her dance moves. This week, it is in Ahmedabad with Prachi Desai. With announcements on local radio stations and tickers running through cable TV, these shows are packed with audiences who come to watch their favourite star perform and plead for votes. These roadshows will culminate with all the twelve contestants coming to Mumbai to announce the show on September 21st.

Last year's winner Mona Singh is hosting the show with Rohit Roy. The show will go on air on September 28th.

Ek Ladki Anjaani Si comes to an end

The 2 year long run of Ek Ladki Anjaani Si comes to an end as the serial plans to wrap up on 12th September. The story which started off as the tale of an 18 year old ambitious, yet playful Ananya, went thro many twists and turns, which included Kanchi Kaul being replaced by Sai Deodhar. The real-life jodi of Shakti Anand and Sai Deodhar kept the serial going with their awesome chemistry for nearly one year now. But every good thing has to come to an end, so can this serial be an exception?

Our sources say that Sony has planned to give a new look to their serial slots, one such unique concept which is in the launch stage is Amber Dhara. “The recent soaps on Sony have not managed to garner good TRPs; hence the channel is now looking forward to newer programs”, seems to be the motto of the channel now.

Nach jodis sweating it out!

Nach jodis sweating it out!

Our Nach Baliye 3 stars may have replaced their gym shoes with dancing ones. But they aren’t worried… most stars tell us that they are losing weight after practicing for hours.

Amita Sethi
Nach has taken both of us completely by surprise. We have lost both our private life and weight! Recently we had to go for a social gathering so I took out a party dress that I have work many times earlier. And this time it looked very loose and had completely lost its shape! Although I don’t know how much weight I have lost one thing is for sure that I am sweating it out…

Amita Chandekar
Weight loss was not a problem for me as according to my height my weight is perfect but due to Nach by body has toned up which is very good. So that's not a problem for me as with the rehearsals my diet has also changed. I'm taking more liquids like coconut water and things like that. So it’s all good!

Shakti Kapoor
I have lost 2 kgs and I don't know how much more I'm going to reduce but it’s good that I have become patla. Even our choreographer Sylvester has reduced 5 kgs...as earlier his weight was 55 kgs but now 50 kgs!

Kavita Kaushik
Recently only I met my FIR serial director Shashank and he was shocked to see me. He was like “Bahut Sukdi ho Gayi ho…aur baas...” Even Karan has lost some weight and has developed sexy jaw line.

Aamir Ali
We haven't lost any weight as we are eating good nutritious food which is not affecting our body.

Sweta Keswani
I 'm not on a weight loss programme but when I checked my waist has reduced from 37 to 36” and these changes you come to know during dress trials. Alexx has also reduced 2 kgs! I am also losing weight on my hips so now our diet plan includes home made sandwiches, salads and while rehearsing we keep electoral water so we don’t dehydrate.

NACH BALIYA 3 Starting From 21st September 2007 on Star Plus

NACH BALIYA 3 Starting From 21st September 2007 on Star Plus

Our telly couples are demanding such fat remunerations that the channel organizing third season of Nach Baliye is finding it a very tou

gh task to go ahead. While the more established stars are busy with their daily soaps, the lesser ones are demanding unheard of money to participate in the show. Some telly stars are not comfortable with the idea of being seen as a couple though they have been dating each other for quite some time now.

As a source says about the whole problem, ‘ The telly stars are asking for unheard of money for the show. It’s simply beyond our budget. We have had approached at least twenty couples. The biggest problem we faced this year was that the couples who has been dating are not prepared to come out in open. They were extremely uncomfortable when we approached them for the show.’

However, the channel has finalized the following eight couples for the show

and the signing process will begin this weak. Rakhi Sawant- Abhishek Awashthi, Indraneil Sengupta-Barkha Bisht, Sandeep Baswana- Ashlesha Sawant, Aamir Ali- Sanjeeda Sheikh, Kishwar Merchant- Hiten Paintal, Kiran Karmarkar- Rinku, Pooja Ghai- Vikaas Kalantari, Kavita Kaushik- Karan Grover, Karna Patel- Amita Chandekar. Jayshri Rao Replaces Rucha Gujarati As Suhana In Bhabhi ( Star Plus)

After threatening to quit the show umpteenth number of times, bubbly actress Rucha Gujarati is finally out of the show. Now, Jayshri Rao will be essaying the role of Suhana. And with this change, it's time again for audiences to see a fresh track emerging in the storyline.

Though the rumour mills have it that Rucha was extremely unhappy with Gurdeep Kohli's entry in the show and wanted to work on her own terms; but somehow here she gives us a totally different side of the story.

Keeping all the controversies aside, Rucha says, "I have quit the show because it is taking a generation leap. I am not comfortable playing a mother to a 16 year old daughter. I want to play characters of my age. I am also fed up of crying as Bhabhi. I have tried many genres in the past but not comedy. Now that I am free, I may do so."

So, how will Rucha exit the show? She reveals,"I will be dying in the serial and a new lead will be introduced as Suhana."

However, Rucha's loss is Jayshri's gain who's currently playing the lead in DD's Nargis.
"This is my first show on Star Plus. I had auditioned for Suhana's role and now that I've been signed on, I am really excited about it. I am trying to get into the skin of the character," utters Jayshri.

For the uninitiated, Jayshri has done some movies down south and a couple of Hindi serials too. She was last seen in Aroona Irani's Tum Bin Jaaon Kahaan and Zameen Se Asman Tak.

When we asked Jayshri about Rucha's controversial exit, she gave us a rather diplomatic answer. "Rucha is a good actress and I like her work. About her exit there's nothing much to say. I don't know Rucha personally so I cannot comment," says Jayshri.

The current track in the serial revolves around Suhana (Rucha Gujarati), Dev (Vishal Singh) and Gurdeep (Geetanjali Sarbharwal). In the coming episode, Suhana will meet with an accident but will be back with a new identification.
"We are going for a generation leap one more time and also introducing Jayshri Rao. She fits the role perfectly and will be our new Suhana.," confirms Uditanshu Metha, Associate Vice-President, UTV.

Will the afternoon raker Bhabhi be able to maintain the same TRPs post Rucha? We leave it to the audiences to decide..

Urvashi's back as Komolika!

BACK AGAIN: Urvashi Dholakia
Is it a last ditch effort to save Kasautii Zindagii Kay from wrapping up?

After a year you are back as Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay...

Yes. It feels good to be back in a show that one has been a part of since the very beginning

You have a funky hairdo this time around...

I have always experimented with my hair. I've done it again this time.

Your hairstyle seems to be a combination of singer Pink and Victoria Beckham...

Well, kind of. Let's see how I can carry it off and how far people accept it.

The makeup is also a little different from earlier...

People appreciated it even then. But this time we've gone in for a chick look. Of course Komolika will always remain glamourous.

Even though you are playing a much older character now you still look as young as the earlier Komolika....

Is it just me who looks young? That should be a general statement. Anyway at the end of the day we all actors are young. Also, I think the audiences are okay with the way we are portrayed on screen.

What about buzz that Kasautii... is wrapping up?

I have only read this in the media. I have no clue about it.

Is bringing Komolika back a last ditch effort by the producers to save the show?

I can't comment on that. All I know is that Komolika has always been a very popular character among people and I suppose that's the reason I've been brought back.

Komolika has given you maximum popularity....

Undoubtedly. It made me popular. The best part was that this character was a complete team effort in terms of styling and characterisation.

Cezanne's resolve

Cezanne Khan (TOI Photo)

It remains to be seen whether he sticks to his resolve
Cezanne Khan who became immensely popular as Anurag Basu, quit Kasautii Zindagii Kay when the serial went through another age leap.
The actor later joined Ek Ladki Anjani Si , and though his character has become popular with the audience, the actor may have to hunt for another assignment soon as the serial is rumoured to go off air in the near future. The actor had earlier said that he'll not go back to playing Anurag again, it remains to be seen whether he sticks to his resolve or goes back on his word

Any takers for Sakshi's dilemma?

Any takers for Sakshi's dilemma?

Tell us what you want to watch.

Sakshi Tanwar is now asking viewers what she should do. One of the bahus in the family has been raped and Sakshi is in a dilemma whether to go to the police or not.
Clearly the production house is confused about the direction the story should take and are now looking for answers from the audiences via sms. But the question is... are people really interested?

Rucha left Bhabhi

Rucha Gujrathi (TOI Photo)
Leaving the whitener behind

Rucha Gujrathi, yes the pretty actress who's been playing the lead role in Bhabhi ever since Dolly Sohi left the show, has finally decided to quit it. Reason?
Well, the show's taking a generation leap and Rucha doesn't want to play the part of an older woman. Good thinking Rucha. Anyways, that baby face wouldn't have looked very convincing with whitener in the hair!

Ram’s co-stars forget his b’day… Kasamh Se!

Prachi Desai (Bani): “My God I completely forgot it. Ram is not shooting today (Saturday), he is at home but I did not realize that he has taken an off for his birthday. I wish him a great birthday.”
Ashwini Kalsekar (Jigyasaa): “I forgot his birthday completely. I am not shooting today for Kasamh Se as I am out for some work. May god bless him and I hope his happiness increases with every passing day.”

Arunima Sharma (Rano) told us that she had just messaged him before we called her. “He must be sleeping at home as he has taken an off. All of us take a holiday on our birthday. Ram is a fantastic person and I wish him all the best on his birthday.”

When we called Ram, he was busy in chilling out with his family and was enjoying himself. On the other hand, Gautami was busy in a meeting and informed us: “There are no party plans because he is shooting round the clock.”

Well Ram’s co-stars may have forgotten his birthday and Ram may also be busy but we do not want to miss this opportunity to wish Ram a Happy and ‘Healthy’ Birthday!

Testing times for Idol contestant Emon Chatterjee

Testing times for Idol contestant Emon Chatterjee

Indian Idol contestant Emon Chatterjee is going to appear for his 12th board exams in March 2008 but he has not attended college for 8 months.

A unit source told us, “When he came for the auditions he had just passed 11th and now it has been months since he has gone to college. Thankfully, the college staff has been very co-operative and so he is not much stressed about it. He is in Kolkata for a performance and is getting tremendous response.”

Udit Narayan, one of the judges of the show, adds, “I know he is studying for his exams and is bit tense but he should concentrate on singing right now and after the competition he can study and appear for the exams. Everyone has some tensions in their life but we have to somehow manage things. Emon has already reached the final 3 of the show and I am sure he will do well in his exams too.”

Despite making it this far on the show, Emon has been getting a lot of flak for his voice quality with Javed Akhtar and Udit Narayan claiming that it is similar to that of his idol Sonu Nigam. He has been in the danger zone for many episodes but has survived every time.

Last week too Javed Akhtar passed some harsh comments on him but there was consolation in the form of praise from the other judges.

Sandeep’s ‘loss’ surprises Sumeet

Sandeep’s ‘loss’ surprises Sumeet

Sumeet Sachdev, Gautam of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, got a pleasant surprise when he saw a much slimmer brother Sandeep winning Biggest Loser Jeetega.
Though Sumeet was confident of his brother’s victory, he is yet to come to terms with the amount of weight (50 kgs) Sandeep has shed.

Says the actor, “I missed the earlier episodes but when I eventually saw him on the show I was really surprised to see the changes. He used to jog for four hours and lost around 25 kgs in 8 episodes. The changes which have taken place in him are not gradual.”

Sumeet was candid enough to admit that another contestant Ajay lost more weight than Sandeep. “Unfortunately, Ajay got eliminated much earlier but we should all respect their efforts.”

Spilling the beans about his brother, Sumeet says, “He was thin when he was a child but started to put on weight from the age of 12 because of his bad eating habits and became really overweight. I am happy that he grabbed this chance to participate in the show.”

Why the secrecy over the relationship with Sandeep? “If I would have disclosed it earlier then people would have asked me for more information. And so I thought it would be best to keep quiet. Anyways I was in Dubai when he went to Amby Valley.”

On the celebration front, he reveals, “They have already begun. He is also going to Delhi but it will be a small and private party.”

Sandeep won a cash prize of Rs 50, 70,000 in grand finale of Biggest Loser and now talks are on for a film with him in the lead.

Arrested Thakural will be missing from Kyunki for some weeks

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’s much hyped character JR Thakural (Ram Kapoor) will not be seen on the show for a few weeks.

Anil Nagpal, scriptwriter of the show reveals, “Thakural will not be there in the show for a few weeks, as he has been jailed. His track was going in a typical way and it was fine for metro audiences. But I wanted to give it a more negative appeal. His darker side will be out when he is released from jail, in a few weeks.”
