Mona "Millie" Vasu is quite excited about her new NDTV Imagine show, Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi. Here she plays the role of Rohini, the eldest of Supriya Pilgoankar's 3 daughters. "My character is of a girl who believes that she is the reason for her family having to move from Kanpur to Mumbai", explains Mona. She also felt that she really had to underplay her self, as Rohini is very conscious of her sexuality. “My character has been unable to understand men", adds the actress.
So what attracted you towards this DJ show? "Firstly it is a weekly, so things move at a leisurely pace. I am not too comfortable working in dailies, where you keep compromising with quality. Secondly, the story here deals with common issues. People are getting tired of over-the-top dramas, and are just waiting for someone to buck the trend. Hence we hope that our show gets all the love and support it needs," opines Mona.
Besides this emotional story, Mona is also doing a weekly comedy on 9X called Jamegi Jodi.com. Here too, she plays a complete different character from Millie. Talking about her role, Mona says, “Mihir Mishra and I run rival matrimonial agencies, but he is hi-tech, while I still believe in the age old method. The best part of this show is that we have different marriage stories every week, where all the characters are all different, except us two.”
Both your characters in Radha Ki Betiyaan and Jamegi Jodi.com are very Indian in dressing, while you sported a tomboyish look in Millee. So don’t you want to explore western looking characters? “I can't understand why a woman has to dress in western clothes to be in. Modernity is in thought and not in clothes. And don't our saas bahu vamps look hep in backless saris as well. I choose a character based on its merit and not by show costumes”, she asserted.
Coming to Millie, she felt that it was good that the show ended when it did, as there was no sense in showing the father-daughter tussle for too long. However, she would not accept that the serial was dragging, for the setting was changed from the adoption house to college as well. “The public liked this change”, she pointed out.
Regarding her long absence post Millie, she says "I needed a break. Besides, there was nothing challenging in most of the roles I was getting. Hence, I waited and luckily was blessed with Radha”.
In closing, she says that she would not mind doing a reality show as well. "However, I would not pick up just about anything, as many people do for the sake of money. The concept of Big Boss seems interesting. But all depends on whether I can find 3 months off."
