Bye-Bye Amber Dhara?

Kashmira Irani and Sulagna Panigrahi may soon be free of each other. The Amber Dhara girls who could not be seen in public without each other need not worry as the conjoined twins saga may end soon.

The buzz is that 25th April is the last day. When we spoke to Sanjay Upadhyay, Head of Fiction, Sony Entertainment Television, he denied the end news, but did accept that all is not well with this unique show. “The TRP's are not doing well and we have given the producer notice to improve the ratings”, stated Sanjay Upadhyay.

Ali Merchant who plays Akshat did not express surprise at the turn of events “We had been hearing such talk for some time now. Asked as to what might have gone wrong, the cool looking dude said that constant changes in time slot may have contributed to the fall in the ratings. Remember when Amber Dhara began at the 9.30 pm slot, we were the number 1”, says Ali.

Further he felt certain tracks were stretched too long. Our source says relationship between the channel and the production house is also not good. While Sony was not happy with the TRP, the producers want a better budget. This point was corroborated with Sony passing on the entire blame of the failure on the producer's door. Further, Sanjay Upadhyay said, “The show was entirely the producer's baby and we went along with their vision”.

Ali felt that possibly the creatives might try to give the show a final push by trying to separate the twins. But if that happens, then will the story not become just like any other daily soap? “Yes but then the manner in which the girls adjust to living on their own might be an interesting track to explore”, he added.

Producer Vikas Seth refused to comment.
