Vande Mataram!
- Jawaharlal Nehru

These are the words of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on Indian Independence Day, 1947. Now after 61 years we are celebrating the joy of our Freedom, with the same zest and enthusiasm!
But what exactly does Independence mean to us?? After 61 years of free-life, where do we stand?? The onus and responsibility lies on us to protect the motherland for which many have laid their lives…Let’s thank all those who have given their blood and soul for the motherland and Salute all the Martyrs and Leaders who had the dream to live in Independent India!
15th August signifies hope of an India where unity and peace will continue to prevail .On this, Television Stars shared their views...
Alok Nath:
The one thing that makes you proud to be an Indian: I feel that people like Abhinav Bindra make me proud to be an Indian.
The biggest threat to India and its unity, according to you: The pathetic politicians are a threat to India and its unity.
Your favorite leader in today’s era: Well what leaders? Who are they? I don’t see any leaders. I feel true leaders are people like Narayan Murthy, Ambani brothers and many others who have taken the nation a step ahead.
Message on Independence Day: I feel that Independence is sacred. In jungles animals have all the independence but it is very unfortunate that people are bound with laws and restrictions. In these restrictions one has to find independence. Let’s make this world a better place to be in.
****
Sudha Shivpuri:
The one thing that makes you proud to be an Indian: I feel that from the time we got independence till now, every field has progressed a lot. The conditions of women have seen a drastic change and I am happy about this.
The biggest threat to India and its unity, according to you: The endless personal fights that happen on issues regarding caste and creed is very bad. Everyone has a position to hold in life and people who are in a higher position in society should take their job more seriously.
Your favorite leader in today’s era: I don’t think I can name one, sabi hi mere favorite hai i.e. all are my favorite. I like Sonia Gandhi . I really like her because she is one female who has got Congress to the forefront.
Message on Independence Day: I feel that we need to understand and value the sacrifice of our leaders for the nation. We should always be united and never get into personal fights.
The one thing that makes you proud to be an Indian: I feel the love that people have towards each other and the sprit with which all the festivals are celebrated in this country is incredible.
The biggest threat to India and its unity, according to you: The ones who always try to divide people on the basis of caste and creed..
Your favorite leader in today’s era: My favorite leader is Rahul Gandhi without any doubt.
Message on Independence Day: I feel that each individual should do something that makes India proud. Like in sports Abhinav Bindra has made India proud; in the same way I feel that in each field some one should do something so that India is proud of that individual.
****
Aamir Ali:
The one thing that makes you proud to be an Indian: I think that there are lots of things that make me feel proud and can’t state one. Things like the way we adapt to various culture and the way we are growing as a nation makes me feel proud. I feel that every country has certain bad points and India is no exception. But leaving that aside, I would say that I am a hard core Indian!!
The biggest threat to India and its unity, according to you: I think it is dirty politics that screw up a lot of things. Just to get a vote bank, some people divide people on the basis of cast or creed which is very dangerous..
Your favorite leader in today’s era: I like Umar Abdullah for his honesty and Laloo Prasad Yadav for his smartness. Before I used to find Laloo ji funny and then I found him amazing and in couple of years I realized that he is a smart person who can turn losses into profits.
Message on Independence Day: Never think of dividing this country on the basis of caste, creed and culture. Just enjoy your freedom and live a happy life.
Jayati Bhatia:
The one thing that makes you proud to be an Indian: I think I am born in this country and I am brought up the way I was. I feel that today my country is on a threshold where I see some of the younger generation having cigarettes and on the other hand, I also see some going to places of worship. I am seeing an amalgamation of both modern and traditional.
The biggest threat to India and its unity, according to you: Population and lack of education are the biggest threats to India's unity.
Your favorite leader in today’s era: I am totally and absolutely excited about Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot.
Message on Independence Day: I think Independence for me is something where I want to express my views on Getting rid of pretence and show-off is what people should do! I feel most of us speak only in our houses, now its the time to go out and talk about your views.
****
Dimple Jhangiani:
The one thing that makes you proud to be an Indian: I feel that India is very rich in culture. People live with unity and are always together.
The biggest threat to India and its unity, according to you: Westernization which might change Indian culture is the biggest threat..
Your favorite leader in today’s era: I can’t name any as I don't like any one. Everything is now full of corruption.
Message on Independence Day: Happy Independence Day!! Let’s stop corruption and be loyal to our nation!!

Ek Se Badhkar Ek gets more spicy...
Zee’s Ek Se Badhkar Ek has seen everything; whether it is a face-off between participants, judges’ outrageous marking of points, unwanted comments made by judges, change of host this show has indeed all the ingredients that make it ‘spicy’!!
Now we see a different issue cropping up and it was the no-show of Sanober Kabir on the day of shoot!! Ironically, it was Sanober-Musarrat jodi along with Abhishek-Meenal who were in the danger zone this week.
According to our source, “Even though Sanober was not present for the face-off, Meenal and Mussarat performed in which Meenal scored higher than Mussarat. So Meenal and Abhishek stay!!”. When asked about the reason for Sanober’s no-show, our source says, “Reasons for this are not known; we were shocked when she did not turn up for shoot”.
Well, Ek Se Badhkar Ek surely gives the viewers all the variety they need!!

A twist to the tale in Ek Se Badhkar Ek...
Zee’s Ek Se Badhkar Ek had the theme of ‘Regional Songs’ this week! Mandira Bedi took over as host from owing to Ravi Kissen’s unavailability. This week saw Jasveer Kaur-Raja Hassan and Rajshree Thakur-Amit Paul in the danger zone. But there was a twist to the tale and according to our well-placed source, “Rajshri Thakur requested to be eased out of the competition as her knee was in real bad shape. She had been advised by her doctors not to dance for a while. Bearing in mind her serial and personal commitments, the actress did not want to take the risk of continuing”.
Our source adds on to say “Rajshri had taken the decision to quit even before the episode shoot and had also informed the channel authorities. But this decision came as a shocker to the judges and contestants present there”. When asked about the future of Amit Paul in the contest, our source avers, “The judges initially decided to go for a face-off between Raja Hassan and Amit Paul, but the major question before them was, who will partner Amit even if he survives this round? However, Amit made things simpler as by saying he respects Rajshri’s decision and will also opt out”.
Telly Buzz called Rajshri Thakur to know more on her injury. “It’s a ligament tear that forced me to quit. I had this problem ever since the show started, but had ignored it”, quips the actress.
When asked about the repeated comments making rounds that she was part of the competition because of her fans and not due to her talent, Rajshri quotes, “I think all know the format of the show and they are also aware that I have earned my audience/fans over a period of time due to my hard work. Nothing comes on a platter, so if I am getting votes and my fans are supporting me, then nobody should be unhappy. After all, it is a celebrity competition and everyone should respect audience voting. As far as talent goes, I have been performing to the fullest of my abilities and it was my hard work that was getting paid off. My fans accepted me because of my talent".
Last but not the least, Rajshri ends with a message to her fans, “Thank you so much for supporting me and loving me always. Love you all!”.

Shilpa Shinde cast opposite Iqbal Khan in Waaris
As Smriti Irani’s Ugraya Productions gears up for the launch of their big project on Zee, ‘Waaris’, we would like to remind our readers that it was Telly Buzz who came up with the news that Iqbal Khan, Yuvraj Malhotra, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rucha Gujrathi, Bhawna Roy and Khushboo Purohit (9X’s Yeh Hai Jalwa fame) will be part of the star cast.It was earlier reported that Iqbal Khan will be paired with Aashka Goradia while Yuvraj Malhotra will be cast opposite Rucha Gujrathi. Here is Telly Buzz coming up with some latest updates on the cast.
Instead of Aashka, it will be Shilpa Shinde of ‘Maayka’ fame who will be paired opposite the very popular Iqbal Khan in Waaris. When we called Shilpa for a confirmation, the actress readily quoted, “Yes, I am very much thrilled to be part of Waaris”. Talking about her character, the actress quips, “I play Gayathri who is shown to be the wife of Shankar played by Iqbal Khan. One can actually say that our roles are almost similar to the roles played by Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan in Yuva”. She further adds, “It’s very challenging to play a don’s wife. I am aware of all his wrong doings and try my best to drag him out of the mess”.
The story is basically of a Don played by Ashish Vidyarthi who has two sons and a daughter. The role of the Don’s wife is played by the beautiful Indira Krishnan who played mother to Kanchi Kaul in Ek Ladki Anjaani Si. The elder son Dharma, played by Iqbal Khan is his father’s right hand while the younger son, played by Yuvraj Malhotra is kept unaware of their dealings. The Don has a sister whose role will probably be played by Ragini Shah, seen in Sahara One’s Mera Sasural. The new girls to television, Bhawna Roy will play the role of the sister’s daughter while Khushboo Purohit plays the Don’s daughter.
On the start date, our well-placed source says, “The show was to be launched on 14th July, but guess the date has been postponed now. But the time slot has been fixed for 11 PM”.
Well, the wait just can’t get longer now, what say folks??

Deepti Devi clears the air
Zee’s show Parivaar – Kartavya Ki Pariksha witnessed a high last week with the entry of the bad man Swapnil, played by Faizal Raza Khan just when the protagonists Radha and Shlok were about to get married. But now, the spotlight is on Deepti Devi who plays the role of Radha and if rumors are to be believed, the production house and the channel seem to be unhappy with the actress and contemplate going for a replacement if things do not work out well. Our well-placed source informs us that “Deepti has signed a contract that she will give fifteen hours to the serial everyday, but she hardly devotes twelve hours per day which is inclusive of her make-up time. Since the episodes are shot cut-to-cut, the unavailability of the protagonist makes things more complicated”.
However, when inquired about this, Deepti Devi says, “Well, I had issues with the team and hardly got time to sit and talk things out. But now I have managed to set things right and as a lead, I understand my responsibility and I am managing my shoot quite well”. Elaborating more on the problem regarding the timings, the actress states, “I work everyday for nearly thirteen hours. The problem occurs when I have to shuffle between my day and night schedules due to which I do not get sufficient sleep. This team is like my family and I guess such things do happen. We just need to move on with it”.
Hope things are crystal-clear between Deepti and the production team and this big Parivaar remains united for long!!

After being an iconic bahu of Indian television, Smriti Irani is creating waves in Indian television even as a producer. A Twist in Silent love to Shlok And Radha
As seen in the current track of Parivaar, the main protagonist Deepti Devi, better known as Radha, has feelings for Krishna Sharma aka Shlok but is unable to express, for the fear of being rebuked as she is a widow. To avoid any confrontations, Radha moves away from Shlok’s life so that he can get married to Aarti. However, to her misfortune both Aarti and Sonalika realize that she is in love with Shlok and reveal it to Radha’s family. Apart from the new entry into the serial Manorama, played by Apara Mehta, everyone is shell shocked to hear of this since they still consider widow re-marriage taboo.
When asked about this new twist in the show, Krishna Sharma says, “The twist will make a huge difference in the show. Until date, the audience was shown the love triangle between Radha, Shlok and Aarti, but now the truth is finally revealed that I love Radha and not Aarti. The whole revelation has been planned by Sonalika to cause further trouble in Radha’s life. What happens after the truth is out is to be seen by the viewers.” Annotating on the twist Apara Mehta adds, “Manorama is a very broad minded person and accepts practices like widow re-marriage. When she learns the truth about Shlok and Radha, she is immensely happy as she is the only person who supports it.”
With this twist, the show touches the very sensitive issue of widow re-marriage. On this topic Krishna opines, “I completely support widow re-marriage. Every widow deserves a chance to live her own life. If she has lost her husband, it’s not her fault. Moreover, if men can re-marry, then why can’t women? I feel sorry to see the state of things in today’s society. We discuss about equality in parliament but when it comes to implementation, nothing is actually done.”

Ajay Devgan’s family drama
Yet another dramatic incident took place on the sets of a reality show. Recently, on the shoot of Zee’s Rock N Roll, family judge Ajay Devgan got so furious over an argument amongst the contestants that he lost his cool, took hold of Kajol’s arm and stormed out of the sets saying “if you guys know the best then carry on. I will not tolerate a change of format halfway through the show”.
The whole drama started when the existing families in the competition objected to the selection of entirely new families as ‘wild card entries” in the show. Brijesh from Saxena family, who initiated the argument, said that it’s unfair on them to introduce two new families at this stage of the competition. He maintained that when they have sweated it out all through to reach this far in the competition, suddenly two new families cannot just have a cake walk into the show. He proposed the re-entry of those families who have already been eliminated. Ajay lost his patience and said that whatever the format, which had been decided, was told to all the families well in advance. Even if they had any disagreements they should have addressed to it at that stage and not now when the families have already been selected.
Ajay made his point quite clear when he said that whatever is happening will go on and whosoever has any problem should leave. But, for a change, it was Ajay who, in the end, left the sets of the reality show along with his wife Kajol.Well, the reality behind the drama as whether this was scripted or not would never be revealed but one thing is for sure that viewers of this show got yet another masala episode while the channel gained their share in terms of points on the TRP charts.
