Now, Rohit Roy turns a rapist

rohitRohit Roy, who played the underworld toughie Fattu in 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', is now part of Karan Razdan’s ‘Mittal vs Mittal’, which has attempted the taboo subject of marital abuse and rape. Paired opposite National Award winner Rituparna Sengupta, Rohit plays a demanding husband.

Was he not apprehensive about taking up a negative role? Rohit laughs, “In fact it’s a challenge. It’s a bold subject being made for the first time in Bollywood.

It’s up to the audiences to decide whether I am trying to get intimate with my wife or physically abusing her. What if a wife is frigid and dislikes intimacy? My character Karan Mittal is passionate but his wife is inhibited. Instead, she drags him to court for ‘marital rape’,” explains the actor.

“According to statistics, marital rape is a common occurrence. ‘Mittal vs Mittal’, sensitively handled by Karan, has its lighter and romantic situations too,” justifies Rohit who is also busy shooting for Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Alibaug’ where he is paired opposite wife Manasi Joshi Roy.

Did he feel awkward acting opposite his spouse? “It’s easier because we understand each other. We were just ourselves. ‘Alibaug’ again is a slice-of-life film about nine friends and their professor,” insists Rohit who is also busy with his next reality TV production ‘Little Champs’ ( Zee Next), which showcases the heartbreaks and ecstasies of talented kids.
